Newsweek quoted McGuireWoods Consulting’s senior vice president Spiro Amburn in a trio of stories looking at the results and longer-term impact of the 2024 election.
On Nov. 6, 2024, in the article “How Donald Trump Pulled Off the Greatest Comeback in Political History,” Spiro noted that “timing is everything in politics. The American people clearly spoke regarding the failure by Democrats to address the issues of public safety and the economy. Trump won on these issues.”
In a Nov. 6 article, “Liberals Completely Misunderstood Voters Concerns About Democracy,” Spiro noted that there was a significant disconnect between what Harris’ campaign and Trump voters thought about what constituted a threat to democracy. “Many Trump voters still believe the 2020 election was illegitimate and that the federal government is a threat to personal freedom.”
Spiro noted that Harris’ team did not make a convincing enough case regarding the economy with the voters. “Working class Democrats were more concerned with the cost of living under the Biden administration as compared to the Trump Administration. Democrats misunderstood their voters and did not connect with them.”
In a Nov. 7 article, “America’s Turning 250, and Donald Trump is Throwing the Party” and looking at some of the big events scheduled for the next four years on American soil, including the World Cup, the Olympics and the Semi quincentennial, Spiro noted that Trump is well-suited to handle the celebrations. “For a guy who only does big and bold, this is right in his wheelhouse,” Spiro said.
