Tanner Long

Federal Public Affairs

Tanner Long is an assistant vice president on McGuireWoods Consulting’s federal public affairs team in Washington, D.C., where he advises clients on regulatory and legislative matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Tanner worked at the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, analyzing federal regulations under the Regulatory Flexibility Act and engaging with federal agencies and stakeholders on the impact of proposed rules. He also served in the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs at the Office of Management and Budget, reviewing significant proposed and final regulations, coordinating with agencies during the rulemaking process and evaluating information collections under the Paperwork Reduction Act.

His experience also includes drafting and revising legislation for the Virginia General Assembly’s Division of Legislative Services, supporting federal rulemakings at the Federal Maritime Commission and interning with McGuireWoods Consulting’s advocacy team. Earlier in his career, Tanner held legislative affairs roles with the University of Texas System and Texas Realtors®, where he managed bill tracking, policy analysis and advocacy initiatives before the Texas Legislature.

Tanner earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2024 and is admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia. He received his B.A. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016 and serves on the board of the D.C. Chapter of Texas Exes. Tanner is originally from Fort Worth, Texas.
