Spiro Amburn is a senior vice president on McGuireWoods Consulting’s Georgia government relations team. His career spans over 25 years in Georgia state government, having served as chief of staff for the late Georgia Speaker of the House David Ralston and current Speaker Jon Burns. During his 14 years as chief of staff, Spiro oversaw a workforce of over 100 employees and a $23 million budget. He also served as senior advisor on policy, legislation, budget, and communications.
Spiro served as the director of legislative services for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice and as legislative deputy for Gov. Sonny Perdue. During his tenure in state government, Spiro played a strategic role in managing a variety of legislative initiatives, including historic policy and funding reforms to transportation, public safety, healthcare, and education. He has been recognized by James Magazine as a top lobbyist and is a contributor on The Georgia Vote – a weekly political news program on Atlanta NBC affiliate 11 Alive. Spiro is frequently cited by Newsweek Magazine as an authority on Georgia politics and their implications on the national level.
A Georgia native, Spiro holds a bachelor’s degree from Kennesaw State University and a master’s degree from the University of Georgia.
