April is a vice president of state government relations in McGuireWoods Consulting’s Raleigh office. She first joined McGuireWoods Consulting in January 2019 as an intern before joining the team full-time later that year. April assists and advises clients with lobbying and advocacy efforts before the North Carolina General Assembly and various state agencies. She has worked with clients across a variety of industries with a focus on healthcare, education, transportation, and association and coalition management. April also has experience assisting clients with multi-state legislative tracking on a variety of policy issues.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods, April worked at a campaign consulting company that assisted campaigns with grassroots efforts in races for seats in the state House, Senate, and various executive agencies. April earned a B.A. in Sociology and a B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in American Politics from North Carolina State University.

Lobbied pro bono in partnership with the Tahirih Justice Center and the North Carolina Child Marriage Initiative to enact SB 35: Max 4-Yr Age Diff to Marry Under 18 Yrs. SB 35 raised the legal age to marry in North Carolina from as young as 14-years-old, tied for the lowest age for marriage set by statute in the United States, to 16 years of age or older and provides a maximum four-year age difference for a 16- or 17-year-old to marry.
