When President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January, there are four ways in which he can follow through on priorities that are important for Indian Country, McGuireWoods Washington, D.C., partner Mike Andrews wrote in a Dec. 13, 2024, article in Law360.
Andrews, also a senior vice president leading McGuireWoods Consulting’s policy work on matters impacting Native American tribes, identified four top priorities: energy, law enforcement, business development and education.
He encouraged the Trump administration to pursue policies like withdrawing all regulatory barriers that disadvantage Native American energy development, adopting a holistic law enforcement approach instead of relying only on the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs, rescinding regulations that hinder business development opportunities, and letting Native American students use federal money for education vouchers.
“If the incoming administration adopts these four policy changes, it should succeed at improving the quality of life for Native Americans throughout the U.S.,” Andrews wrote.
Andrews’ article was included in Law360’s “Election Impact: The Top Guest Articles Of 2024”.
