On Oct. 23 and 24, McGuireWoods Consulting joined in honoring former Congressman G. K. Butterfield, who was celebrated in two dedication ceremonies by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the City of Wilson. These events paid tribute to Butterfield’s remarkable public service legacy as an attorney, judge, and congressman.
The first dedication in Roanoke Rapids honored the newly designated Congressman G.K. Butterfield Highway, which now marks a significant stretch of I-95 from the Virginia line to Exit 273. The speakers for this historic occasion included Attorney General Josh Stein and former DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx. The following day, the City of Wilson gathered downtown for the dedication of the G.K. Butterfield Train Station, an event that drew hundreds of attendees, including local residents, local elected officials, Biden Administration officials, and many of Butterfield’s current and former colleagues. This historic occasion featured EPA Administrator Michael Regan as the keynote speaker.
The celebrations were well-attended, filled with gratitude, and marked by the powerful legacy the former congressman has left in North Carolina.
