On Nov, 18, 2024, DOTmed HealthCareBusiness News published an article by McGuireWoods Consulting senior vice president of federal public affairs Stephanie Kennan on “Key health policy changes likely in the second Trump Administration.”
Kennan’s article surveys key changes to national health policy likely under a second Trump administration.
“While the Trump campaign was not always specific about the policies or goals for health policy, the expected changes in many areas could be a reverse of the last four years of the Biden administration,” Kennan writes.
Kennan foresees potential moves by the Trump administration to weaken the Affordable Care Act, tighten abortion restrictions nationwide, challenge the FDA rule on laboratory developed tests, cut drug prices, and reorganize the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health, among other health policy changes.
“The Trump administration has a large, complex agenda in health policy with few details yet known,” says Kennan. “However, all indications suggest that many of the policies will represent a significant change in direction, and in some cases a complete reversal, for many programs and how the government operates.”
