Former legislative director to Assemblymembers Matt Haney (D-San Francisco) and Bill Quirk (D-Hayward), Heckmann enhances MWC’s presence in California.
November 19, 2024 — McGuireWoods Consulting announced Kassidy Heckmann, a senior legislative staffer for members of the California State Assembly, has joined the firm’s government relations team in Sacramento as a vice president.
Prior to joining MWC, Heckmann served as the legislative director for Assemblymember Matt Haney for the last two years. Additionally, she worked as legislative director for Assemblymember Bill Quirk where she managed and oversaw all strategic legislative efforts.
Throughout her political career, Heckmann contributed to noteworthy legislative initiatives, including establishing regulatory structures for consumer products; worker protection laws for health and pharmacy workers; strengthening housing laws; land use permitting for telecommunications companies; and establishing new employment discrimination standards.
In joining MWC’s Sacramento office, Heckmann is once again teaming up with MWC senior vice president Ryan Pierini, who both worked for Assemblymember Quirk. Pierini has taken a leading role on numerous healthcare and energy initiatives in the state over the last few years.
“Having served as a key player in crafting legislation and working with regulators, Kassidy is well-suited to resolve any policy issue our clients encounter,” said Breelyn Pete, director of McGuireWoods Consulting’s California government relations team and a former Deputy Mayor of the City of Los Angeles.
“MWC has established a strong reputation as a leader in shaping policy, not only in California, but nationwide,” said Heckmann. “I’m excited to be a part of the firm’s impressive California team – and I look forward to helping our clients navigate the state’s complex political landscape and build key partnerships in Sacramento.”
McGuireWoods Consulting’s leadership echoed Pete: “With her work on some of the most notable legislative initiatives in Sacramento and in local governments, Kassidy is an important resource for our clients navigating the state legislature as well as individual localities,” said McGuireWoods Consulting President Jim Hodges, former governor of South Carolina. Chairman Mark Bowles added “We are fortunate to welcome Kassidy to our team as we expand our California platform. She is a great asset.”
Heckmann received her Master of Science from the University of California, Davis and a B.S. from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
