Prior to Super Tuesday’s primary votes that determined the presidential nominees, McGuireWoods Consulting President Jim Hodges, former South Carolina governor, was a key source for reporters as he accurately predicted the results and impact of the Republican race.
Hodges spoke with the Bloomberg News, noting the value of winning South Carolina. “If you look at South Carolina, it is a microcosm of the new Republican base, with a lot of white, blue-collar voters here. Trump does well with them. The type of voters Haley does well with in New Hampshire – white, college-educated voters – there’s not a lot of them here, so the math is difficult.”
He also noted to the New York Times that the moderate voters in South Carolina are exactly the type who could help decide the election in November.
“The million-dollar question, will they vote, will they sit it out – or will they vote for Joe Biden? A moderate Republican voter in Charleston is not all that different than a moderate Republican voter in Milwaukee suburbs,” Hodges said.
