The GOP faces a cataclysmic off year election. President Donald Trump’s approval rating stands at 36 percent. More than thirty incumbent House members are not seeking re-election. The federal government’s funding runs out again in three weeks and another acrimonious budget debate lies ahead. Democrats will turn out in huge numbers in November to record their disapproval with the current state of affairs. Independents are siding with Democrats on key policy issues. Republicans need a new narrative about the stakes in this year’s election to radically change the political conversation.
