Former South Carolina Gov.Jim Hodges and federal Executive Vice PresidentFrank Donatelliof McGuireWoods Consulting engaged in a spirited debate before nearly 45members of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Retail Affinity Group inCharlotte, North Carolina, on March 7.

Jim and Frank discussed federal legislative issues and offered differinganalyses and predictions regarding healthcare, tax reform, immigration, trade and infrastructure funding. Frank was generally supportive of theTrump administration’s agenda, while Jim urged caution and felt the changesadvocated were far too abrupt and far-reaching. Both speakers agreed, however, that Washington was finally poised to break gridlock and legislateon many of the key issues facing America.

One attendee remarked that hearing the issues debated, along with adiscussion of the process and potential outcomes, clarified her thinking onhow her company should respond to these emerging legislative developments.
