WASHINGTON – McGuireWoods Consulting today announced that Patrick Martin and Andrew Smith have both been promoted to senior vice president. Martin is a member of the Federal Public Affairs team and Smith works in the MWCAdvocacy group.

“I’m extremely proud of Andrew and Patrick,” said L.F. Payne, president of McGuireWoods Consulting. “In addition to providing high-level client service, they have done a fantastic job in regards to developing and cultivating new clients for the firm.”

Martin, who started at McGuireWoods Consulting in April 2011, has spent seven years as an aide and advisor to former Indiana governor and U.S. Senator Evan Bayh both in the U.S. Senate and at McGuireWoods. He assists clients with healthcare, insurance and financial, information technology and telecom, and energy-related matters. Before his time at MWC and working in the U.S. Senate, Martin had stints in the Obama Administration as a special assistant at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and as a White House intern during the summer of 2009.

Smith joined the firm in January 2014 after a decade of working in the political and public policy arenas. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as finance director for Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe. Smith oversaw the strategy, development and implementation of a record-breaking $44 million fundraising operation. He began his career in public policy with Senator Mark Warner (D-VA). During Senator Warner’s 2008 campaign for the U.S. Senate, Smith served as his personal aide, followed by working in Senator Warner’s Capitol Hill office and was later promoted to overseeing the Senator’s political action committee as its Executive Director. He has also worked on numerous other national Presidential campaigns, including Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid in 2008 and on President Obama’s 2012 re-election overseeing Mid-Atlantic fundraising operations.
