RICHMOND – Jasen Eige, a former senior adviser to attorneys general and the governor of Virginia, is joining McGuireWoods Consulting as a senior vice president and member of the National/Multistate Government Affairs team.

Eige, who served in the cabinet-level role as counselor and senior policy advisor to former Gov. Robert F. McDonnell, will assist clients with governmental and public policy issues across the country, focusing on governors and state attorneys general.  He joins McGuireWoods Consulting’s growing multistate practice, which provides government relations, public affairs, communications, and advocacy services to clients in all 50 state capitals and in many local government jurisdictions.

Eige, who joins the firm on June 1, also will represent clients on matters before the Virginia legislature and state agencies.  An accomplished lawyer and legal adviser, he will provide legal services to clients as a partner in McGuireWoods LLP.

“Jasen Eige’s addition is good news for McGuireWoods’ clients,” said former South Carolina Governor James Hodges, a senior advisor of McGuireWoods Consulting and co-leader of the firm’s multistate practice team. “Not only does it provide our Consulting clients with a remarkable depth of experience in government relations work; we also gain an accomplished lawyer who knows how to get things done the right way at the intersection of law, politics, and public policy.”

As counselor and senior policy advisor to McDonnell, Eige was responsible for managing the governor’s policy and counsel offices.  There he oversaw formulation and implementation of the administration’s policy agenda, reviewed and approved state regulations, coordinated the administration’s interaction with legislators and stakeholders, and supervised the bill review process during legislative sessions. He also was instrumental in developing the governor’s budget proposals, and worked closely with the Office of the Attorney General on matters before the Office of the Governor.

Eige most recently served as president of Atticus Strategies, LLC, a state government relations consulting firm he founded based in the Richmond area. Before joining the governor’s office, Eige served as chief counsel for the McDonnell gubernatorial campaign and served in the Office of the Attorney General for more than six years during the administrations of Jerry Kilgore and Robert McDonnell. His tenure there featured service in several roles, including the Trial Section of the Civil Litigation Division, the Finance Law and Government Services Section, and as chief of staff and counsel for the attorney general.

“Jasen Eige has had a remarkable career – one of great accomplishment and integrity – and McGuireWoods Consulting is fortunate that he’s joining our team,” said Mark Bowles, executive vice president of McGuireWoods Consulting.

Eige is a 1994 graduate of King College in Bristol, TN. After graduating from Regent University Robertson School of Law and School of Government with a master’s of arts in public policy in 1999, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Glen M. Williams, Senior United States District Judge in the Western District of Virginia before joining the Abingdon-based Penn, Stuart & Eskridge law firm.

“Jasen’s familiarity with both the legislative and legal nuances of pertinent issues that our clients face will be an important asset to our clients and to our team of professionals,” said former Virginia Attorney General Jerry Kilgore, a McGuireWoods Consulting senior advisor and co-chair of the multistate practice team.  “His broad expertise and contacts will help us address the wide range of issues our clients face around the country.”
