TYSONS CORNER – McGuireWoods Consulting is pleased to announce that James W. Dyke, Jr. has joined the firm as a senior advisor. Jim, who was formerly a partner with parent firm McGuireWoods LLP, will primarily assist clients with government relations issues in the areas of education, transportation, economic development and solving complex regional issues.

He is also a noted problem solver who is known to work seamlessly with both Democrats and Republicans alike to accomplish common goals.’
 
Jim previously served as Virginia’s secretary of education under former Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder. He was also appointed as Domestic Policy Advisor to former Vice President Walter Mondale. He presently is the Commonwealth of Virginia’s representative on the board of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (“Metro”).
 
An active leader in the Northern Virginia business community, Jim was also chairman of the Greater Washington Board of Trade in 2010. During his term, he was co-chair of the Joint WMATA Governance Review Task Force. Jim as included in Washingtonian magazine’s list of “150 Most Powerful People” in the Washington region and was named on of the “50 Most Influential Virginians” by Virginia Business Magazine. He was also a finalist for the Washington Business Journal’s “Top Washington Lawyer in State and Local Lobbying” and the publication named him as the “Best Networker” in the region and as a Minority Business Leader honoree.
 
Jim has served or is serving on various commissions and committees including the State Council of Higher Education (SCHEV), the Commission to Restructure Virginia’s Tax Structure, the Board of Directors for the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education, the Governor’s Commission on Economic Development and Job Creation, the Governor’s Independent Bipartisan Advocacy Commission on Redistricting and he was co -chair of Governor Bob McDonnell’s Education Summit.
