“We are very excited to have Jeff Barnhart join our growing government affairs team in North Carolina,” said Harry Kaplan, senior vice president of North Carolina Government Relations. “Jeff has had a remarkable career serving the people of North Carolina and working with businesses and community leaders to grow the economy and expand opportunities for its citizens throughout the State. His experience will be exceedingly valuable to both clients and our North Carolina staff.”
 
Representing Cabarrus County, Barnhart served five terms in the North Carolina General Assembly before relinquishing his seat in 2011. He was most recently co-chair of the House Appropriations Committee and was a strong healthcare proponent earning numerous recognitions from many organizations.  
 
Before his tenure as a House Representative, Barnhart served as a Cabarrus County Commissioner for 10 years. He was also acting County Manager for Cabarrus for eight months and served on the county’s Water & Sewer Authority (six years) and Economic Development Board of Directors (nine years).

In addition to his public sector experience, Rep. Barnhart is a former small business owner who also possesses significant private sector experience. He recently stepped down from his position as CEO of Cabarrus Community Health Centers, Inc. after three years at the helm, and also spent 10 years with IBM working in a number of different capacities from engineering to marketing to management.  
 
Rep. Barnhart served for four years (1978-1982) in the United States Air Force where he earned the Air Force Commendation Medal. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology from Southern Illinois University.
