John described the differences he has experienced in lobbying state government as compared to the local level.  He noted that local government officials tend to focus more on “nuts and bolts” operational matters, while state officials are often more policy-oriented.  He also contrasted the procedural differences between state and local legislative bodies, the varying levels of media coverage and the quantity of legislation.  John was joined on the panel by Chicago Alderman Brendan Reilly; Lindsay Anderson, top aide to Governor Pat Quinn; and moderator Thom Serafin.
