WASHINGTON, D.C. –   McGuireWoods Consulting announced that Ronald Platt has joined McGuireWoods Consulting’s Federal Group as a senior advisor in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Platt comes to McGuireWoods from Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP, and will focus his practice on representing McGuireWoods Consulting’s global network of clientsincluding several clients that will be joining him at McGuireWoods Consulting, on issues dealing with a wide variety of both legislative and administrative agency matters.

“Ron’s arrival to McGuireWoods Consulting is a great day for our group as we continue to expand our presence here in Washington,” said L.F. Payne, president of McGuireWoods Consulting. “Having worked with him for several years, we have seen first hand how Ron can navigate difficult and complex challenges for his clients, and we are excited that he will bring that experience to McGuireWoods Consulting.”

Platt brings a wealth of experience to the group’s growing federal practice in Washington, as he has been representing clients with governmental affairs matters for nearly 30 years. In recent years, he has been noted by both the National Journal and Legal Times’ special “Influence Survey” as a top Democratic lobbyist. Prior to going into private practice, Platt has served in staff leadership roles with both former Congressman Jack Brooks (D-TX), the former Chairman of the House Committee on the Judiciary, and Sen.  “The current economic and political climate has created the most challenging environment for government affairs that I have ever witnessed and I look forward to helping the clients I am bringing to the firm as well as existing clients of McGuireWoods Consulting succeed in this environment,” said Platt. “I have focused on tax and healthcare policy for many years and those are areas that are of concern to business interests worldwide. I have also become involved in biodefense, financial services and appropriation matters as well, and I’m looking forward to expanding my portfolio at McGuireWoods Consulting.”
