North Carolina Governor Mike Easley announced November 13, 2008 that Merchants Distributors Inc., a leading wholesale food distribution company and a subsidiary of Alex Lee Foods, will expand its distribution center in Hickory, North Carolina. MDI will invest $50.5 million over the next five years and will add 200 new jobs paying an average annual salary of $51,123.
Chris Lloyd with the McGuireWoods Consulting Business Expansion team assisted MDI with economic development incentives negotiations. The benefits awarded to MDI include a Job Development Investment Grant that could result in up to $2.82 million for the company.
