Governor Kaine announced shortly after taking office in 2006, that his administration would focus on one key policy area each session.  The 2009 session was tapped as the energy and environment session.

Secretary of Natural Resources, L. Preston Bryant, Jr., offered insight into what Virginians can expect to see for the upcoming session, including topics such as climate change, biosolids, land conservation and water (quality, reuse and supply). Bryant also indicated the  possible greening of state government that could include updates to state building codes, energy use, fleet management and purchasing.
