BUCHAREST – McGuireWoods Romania assisted Ford of Europe in hosting 40 top executives of Europe’s main automotive industry suppliers in Romania on September 2- 3.
McGuireWoods Romania helped facilitate a press conference in Bucharest featuring John Fleming, President and CEO Ford of Europe, Birgit Behrendt, Ford of Europe’s Executive Director of Global Programs and Vice-President Purchasing and Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu.
“The conference is an example that we are honoring one of the commitments we made at the time of the bid process for the plant, when we said we would encourage our suppliers to consider ways of bringing business to Romania, either by using Romanian suppliers for their own requirements or establishing facilities of their own in Romania in support of our Craiova operations,” said Fleming.
Prime Minister Tariceanu commented: “Ford has invited 40 component manufacturers whom we hope will build new plants. We will talk about the possibility of attracting spare parts manufacturers in order to support this project and boost the economy, to create new jobs and have a strong automotive industry.”
After the press conference, Ford of Europe hosted a dinner with the 40 executives where the Prime Minister and the Governor of the Central Bank of Romania spoke about business opportunities in Romania.
On September 3, the suppliers attended a meeting Ford of Europe’s Craiova plant, during which Ford’s management briefed them on the company’s plans for transforming the plant into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. In addition, the suppliers heard from Sebastian Vladescu, former Minister of Economy and Finance.
McGuireWoods Romania has represented Ford Motor Company since March 2007 and played an integral role in negotiations between Ford of Europe and the Romanian government in Ford’s purchase of the vehicle manufacturing plant in the south-west of the country.
