An innovative approach to government technology needs
How do governments fund back office system transformation, including technology improvements? The question plagues state legislatures across the nation. Working with CGI, a world leader in information technology and business process services, McGuireWoods Consulting came up with an innovative solution that benefited both government-and their client.
A Diverse Team
Drawing on extensive policy and political expertise, McGuireWoods Consulting worked with legislators to amend a public-private infrastructure act to include technology services. Our team developed policy presentations for legislative committees, created advocacy materials, and advised CGI on political contribution planning.
After legislative success, CGI competed for a contract to consolidate and outsource the state's back-office business systems. McGuireWoods Consulting helped CGI to draft an innovative proposal, which included an economic development component, locating a technology service center in an economically deprived area of the state. The result was one of the largest technology contracts in state history.
Faced with declining revenues, governments across the country are striving to find ways to save money without cutting programs and services. By improving their procurement practices, CGI has saved the state millions of dollars. And the service center has grown to employ more than 300 people in well-paying tech jobs. McGuireWoods Consulting continues to work with CGI, bringing its services to localities and working continually to help the company position itself as a good corporate citizen and national leader in technology.
